De redshift shockstop verende stuurpen is er in verschillende maten. Bij elke levering worden er verschillende rubbers meegenomen die je naar wens kan plaatsen voor meer of minder vering naar gelang het gewicht.

Standaard zitten er al 2 elastomeers gemonteerd in de stuurpen. Vaak de blauwe(70) en de oranje (60). Zie overzicht hieronder.

Dus met deze combi zit je aardig in de middenmoot.
Hou in principe de schema's hieronder aan, maar naar gelang de wensen kan je het altijd weer verder aanpassen.

How do I choose the right length and angle for my bike?

Is ShockStop compatible with the Redshift Quick-Release Aerobars?

Yes. The ShockStop is compatible with our Quick-Release Aerobars and with aerobars in general. It provides great shock absorption and vibration damping when riding in aero.



How is the ShockStop different from other suspension stems?

There are lots of ways that ShockStop is different - so many in fact, we wrote a whole blog post about it.



Will the ShockStop fit my bike?

Yes. The ShockStop will fit virtually all road, hybrid, and triathlon bikes. ShockStop will fit bikes with 31.8mm diameter handlebars and with shims will also fit 25.4mm and 26.0mm diameter handlebars (which covers pretty much all road, hybrid, and commuter bikes). ShockStop will fit bikes with standard 1 1/8" diameter steerer tubes but extra steerer tube spacers may be required if your current stem is taller than 40mm. If your bike has a quill stem then you will need to buy an adapter ($10 - 15).



Will the ShockStop fit my 25.4, 26.0, or 31.8mm handlebar?

Yes. The ShockStop fits 31.8mm diameter handlebars without the need for any additional parts. It will also fit 25.4mm and 26.0mm diameter handlebars but you will need to add shims to your order. If you are unsure if you need shims take a look at this guide we put together.



Will the stem bounce or flex when I am climbing out of the saddle or sprinting?

With the ShockStop there is no need to change your approach to riding. The suspension is “pre-loaded”, meaning that it will not start to move until a certain amount of weight has been applied, so there isn’t a “squishy” feel as you start to apply weight to the stem. Because of this and the inherent torsional rigidity of the pivot design, the feel when climbing or sprinting is going to be nearly the same as with a rigid stem.



What kind of bikes is ShockStop designed for?

The ShockStop is a road-focused suspension stem which means it is compatible with many types of bikes, including: road, gravel, CX, commuter, hybrid, and even non-suspension moutain and fat bikes used for road/trail riding.



Is the ShockStop available in lengths shorter than 90mm?

No. Unfortunately, 90mm is the shortest length that we can make right now due to the internal mechanism.



Do you guys have plans to produce a carbon ShockStop?

Yes. A carbon version of the ShockStop is in development but we do not currently have a time line for production. Please sign up for our newsletter to receive all the latest updates on Redshift.



How do I choose the right elastomers for my bike and riding style?

The ShockStop comes with 5 different elastomers to choose from so everyone can dial in the perfect feel. We provide lots of great guidance on elastomer selection in the instructions and installation video which can be found in the "Instructions" tab on this page.



How do I change the elastomers?

Changing the elastomers is easy, all you need to do is remove the faceplate and handlebar, unscrew the pre-load wedge, replace the elastomers, and screw back in the wedge. We provide detailed guidance on how to do this in the instructions and the installation video which can both be found in the "instructions" tab on this page.



What kind of testing do you do to qualify ShockStop?

All Redshift Sports components are tested to the latest ISO 4210 standard for Racing Bicycles. These standards typically specify "Static Strength" tests (i.e. one-time application of force) as well as "Fatigue" tests (i.e. repeated application of force) for different bicycle components. We also run our own independent tests to better understand lifespan which typically involve cycling well beyond the specifications in the ISO 4210 standard.



Is there a rider weight limit for the ShockStop Suspension Stem?

Yes. The weight limit for the ShockStop stem is 300 lbs (136 kg). Riders over these weight limits should not use these products. Riders close to these limits should perform more frequent inspections.



How long will the ShockStop last?

Even though all Redshift products pass the ISO 4210 tests with margin, all aluminum components are subject to fatigue failure over a sufficiently long period of use. Hours ridden, riding conditions, and rider weight are all significant factors that make it impossible to declare an exact lifespan for any given product. You can learn more about our comprehensive warranty here.

Redshift recommends periodic inspection of aluminum components for hairline cracks or other signs of damage. Any indication of part degradation is grounds for stopping use of the product immediately. This includes visible cracks, creaks or other sounds while riding, or a change in the amount of movement during use.



How does it handle trails, gravel, and cobblestones - I want to use it on a gravel/CX/adventure bike?

With its adjustable-stiffness suspension, the ShockStop can be tuned to match your style of bike and the terrain you ride on. We’ve put the prototypes through some pretty tough terrain, including gravel trails, cobblestone, and torn-up asphalt. In each case, you can feel that the ShockStop is muting the effects of the surface imperfections. The combination of short-travel, torsional rigidity and adjustable stiffness makes the ShockStop a great upgrade for a cross/adventure bike.



Will the ShockStop pivots develop play over time?

No. We spent a significant amount of time on the pivot design focused on torsional stiffness and durability. The pivot is constructed using very high tolerance full compliment ball bearings (like the ones used in mountain bike rear suspension pivots) and a high tolerance custom pivot bolt. And we are not just clamping at the pivot we are also press fitting everything together to eliminate the possibility for wear. Without wear the pivot will stay stiff and will not develop play over time. 



Will cold temperatures affect the stiffness of the elastomers in the stem?

Typically, temperature does affect elastomer stiffness (as temperature drops stiffness increases). In ShockStop, we use a special material for our elastomers such that slight stiffening would only begin to occur well below freezing and the material remains flexible well past -40 deg F. So, while you would see some stiffening at very cold temperatures we expect it to be minor and only slightly reduce the magnitude of shock absorption. In general, we would not recommend riding when the temperature is below -40 deg F.



Can I put the ShockStop on my mountain bike?

Yes and No. The suspension travel on the ShockStop (1-2cm) is optimized for the types of bumps you typically encounter on roads and light trails. So, the ShockStop is not going to provide the same suspension feel as a typical mountain bike front fork suspension, which will have closer to 10-15cm of travel. However, if you use your bike primarily on the lighter trails (i.e. not aggressive downhill) and you’re looking to take the edge off of an otherwise stiff frame (e.g. a bike with a rigid front fork), then the ShockStop could be exactly what you’re looking for. ShockStop is not designed to be used on a mountain bike riding on technical downhill singletrack and if used in these conditions could become damaged and lead to serious injury.



How long will the elastomers in the ShockStop last?

The elastomer life depends on a number of factors including rider weight, riding conditions, and how much you ride. In general we expect the elastomers to last more than 3-5 years under "normal" recreational riding conditions. The material that we use for our elastomers enables them to holds up really well in harsh environments (moisture, oils, temperature change, compression cycling, etc.). We see very little degradation and no discernible change in how much they compress under different loads after a very large amount of test cycles where they are compressed and released which gives us confidence that they will stand up to years of use.

If premature elastomer wear occurs we will happily provide replacements free of charge. In addition, we sell replacement elastomer kits.
